Colleton Celebrated for First Donor

On Sept. 7, Colleton Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit staff enjoyed a celebration of their work with LifePoint in facilitating the hospital’s first ever organ donation during 2006 and the successful recovery of the donor’s organs for transplantation.

LifePoint Hospital Development Coordinator Rebecca Nagy presented the DOVE award in recognition of the entire ICU staff. The DOVE award, acknowledging Donation Opportunities after Valuable Education, was initially presented to Colleton Nursing Supervisor Debbie Strickland who represented the hospital at a July statewide banquet in Columbia. Colleton Medical Center was one of nine South Carolina hospitals that received the DOVE award.

LifePoint is very pleased, proud and grateful that the staff at Colleton recognized the opportunity for one of their patients to be a donor; they contacted LifePoint in a timely manner and, collaborated closely with LifePoint to honor someone’s final wish to give the gift of life through donation.
