Neville Miller wins LifePoint 5K

For Second Consecutive Year…

Neville Miller Wins LifePoint 5K; Anne Clinton First Female to Finish

A total of 364 racers from 13 states registered for LifePoint's 5th Annual Gift of Life 5K/2K Run/Walk on Feb. 27, 2010. The race benefits organ and tissue donation and brings awareness to the need for registrants on the South Carolina Organ and Tissue Donor Registry - www.Every11Minutes.org.

The overall winner of the 5K was defending champion Neville Miller, 27, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., who finished with a time of 16:25. The second-place male was Ken Schramm, 24, of Charleston, S.C., who finished at 18:23. The third-place male, with a time of 18:30, was Todd Walter, 44, of Landrum, S.C.

The overall female winner of the 5K was defending champion Anne Clinton, 27, of Charleston, S.C. who finished with a time of 18:25. The second-place female was Rives Poe, 32, of Charleston, S.C., who finished at 18:27. The third-place female, with a time of 19:56, was Melissa Fairey, 14, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

Fifteen transplant recipients participated in either the competitive 5K race or the recreational 2K walk. In the 5K Female Transplant Division, Elizabeth Walter, 14, of Landrum, S.C. won with a time of 24:08. First place in the 5K Male Transplant Division went to Chris Harris, 29, of Summerville, S.C., with a time of 34:16.

After the race, participants received massages by Total Life Care of West Ashley and had the opportunity to visit the LifePoint Store. Medals were presented to those who finished in the top three of each age/gender division and raffle prizes were awarded to some lucky run/walk participants.

A highlight of the awards ceremony was the recognition of donor families, living donors and transplant recipients/families. George Sawyer, from Rock Hill, S.C., spoke for donor families and Jim Quill, from Hilton Head, S.C., represented transplant recipients.

Major race sponsors included: the South Carolina Coroners' Association, Young Clement Rivers, LLP and Wachovia. Additional sponsors included Dick's Sporting Goods, RoadID, Every11Minutes.org and cover2cover Magazine.

Special contributors were: Bagel Café , Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau, Charleston Magazine, Charleston RiverDogs, Lab Medical Supply, Piggly Wiggly, Stella Nova, Total Life Care, Total Wine, Venture Aviation, Verge Solutions and the Piebanga family – in honor of heart recipient Lauren Piebanga.
