Day-to-Day Services
Correspondence
Donor Family Services’ (DFS) first contact with the donor family is within two weeks of donation. This gives the family time to plan funeral services for their loved one and time to enjoy the support of their immediate family.
The counselor for DFS calls the next of kin within 10 days of donation. A note card is automatically mailed to each new donor family recognizing their loss. After we receive the follow-up information on the recipients, a letter outlining the outcome of donation is mailed to the next of kin within 30 days of donation.
Grief Support
Grief material is sent to the family within the first three months of donation, if they expressed a willingness to receive it during our initial phone conversation. Some families have their own materials or grief support and do not request the material we provide. We also have grief material for our Spanish-speaking donor families.
Donor Medal
Nancy Kay, Chief Executive Officer of LifePoint, developed a donor medal in 2005 to honor and remember our donors. The medal was introduced to the families during our annual Donor Family Ceremony in April 2005. We send out reply forms within three months of donation so that new donor families can request a donor medal. Many families want this medal to place on the tombstone and many keep it with other remembrance items.
Certificate of Appreciation
A Certification of Appreciation is mailed to the donor family within nine months of donation. This is a special “thank you” for giving the gift of life, sight or quality of life.
