S.C. Donor Quilt
How to Make a Quilt Square
Your quilt square should be 8 inches on each side. Your design must fit inside the dotted lines (7 inches on each side). This leaves ½ inch on each side, so that your square can be stitched into the quilt. It is very important that your square meets these two size guidelines so that all the patches are similar and will fit into the finished quilt.
You may use any fabric color or type, including sentimental materials such as your loved one's baby blanket, high school jacket, tie, or favorite sweater. You may use crayons, paint, permanent markers, glitter, thread or any other medium to design the square. You may adorn the patch with poems, quotes and symbols of your loved one's life. Feel free to include your loved one's name and dates of birth and death, if you wish. Whenever possible, please sew everything on the quilt patch securely (avoid using glue, if possible, since it does not last over time).
Do not "finish" the patch with quilting or backing.
If you would like to include a photograph of your loved one, you can have a photo transferred onto fabric by a copy shop. You can also laminate a photo of your loved one, and sew it onto your quilt square.
You may want to take a photo of your quilt square before you bring it to the ceremony.
Please also complete the Quilt Release Form provided at the ceremony.
